Cost Reduction

A major landscape supply company quickly went from offline to online, significantly reducing costs by applying automated content

Background

One of the largest US landscape supply companies decided to take their business online, providing customers with a more up-to-date shopping experience.

The Challenge

Being a seasoned veteran in this sector, the company had accumulated a huge number of products suited to match their customers’ various needs. Displaying these products online required writing new texts for each of them from scratch, including names, bullets, and product descriptions, all based on raw offline data. The company was eager to publish their site as quickly as possible and they needed to decide between two ways of making this happen:

Manual Solution – a manual solution required hiring a content writers, requiring a full HR cycle including recruiting and training. Even with a full content team assembled and ready to go, creating content for more than 200k product pages would be an interminable task.

Automated Solution – an automated solution could rely on the data that the company already held about their inventory to produce content for all their product pages.
Considering the cost and effort of doing this manually, along with the long estimated time-to-market, going with an automated solution was an easy choice for the company.

The Solution

At first, we used Phrasetech’s technology organize the company’s offline data into logical structures ready for processing. With an orderly set of data, our system was ready to gains insights from this information and build contextual language structures. Guided by the company’s content team we applied these structures to generate text entries suitable for variant website placements.

The Result

We successfully turned the company’s raw offline data into conversational online texts suited for their website. The company launched their website on their planned date, even with a very pressing timeline at hand. The company manage to reduce costs for this project dramatically, avoiding the huge overhead of employing human writers for a writing task of this size.

User Experience

One of the largest US Retail companies is now able to efficiently control and optimize its huge content base

Background

This office supply retail corporation came to us with a significant need for content to enrich their large website inventory. At the time, their content was created by a team of human writers and was strictly edited to comply with company standards and guidelines.

The Challenge

Over time, keeping up with these standards became a very demanding task. The high level of text accuracy and formatting that was required turned into a constraining factor, as every edit and update demanded a great deal of effort considering the large scale. The company was forced to tackle inconsistencies in style and voice, as well as inaccuracies in data representations, due to multiple people creating and editing the content. The company searched for a solution that would allow them to automatically create and manage content while maintaining both the quality of the text and its conversational language style.

The Solution

At the onset of our process, we received the company’s editorial guidelines and trained our system to act according to these definitions. Our technology was quickly able to follow these human-like writing guidelines and start producing content matching the company’s standards. We were able to generate content for their entire product inventory, with texts indistinguishable from human writing. The main advantage observed in this case is the ability to gain full control of this large quantity of text. The company was able to manage the content to bring out a consistent voice and style of writing, while representing data about product in a consistent and accurate way. The additional benefit became apparent when the company wanted to update their website content, which could be done easily through our content management system.

The Result

The company succeeded in creating an optimized customer experience, reaching a new level of standardization across all the company’s content base, while achieving full coverage of their product inventory within a short period of time. Their new content was able to present the company’s data in high-levels of accuracy, keeping to their writing guidelines and unique company style.
